![]() ![]() You’re not going to find an X3 xDrive35i on a dealer lot for less than $50K. The bad news, as always with BMW products, is the bottom line. Normal, where most folks will find themselves most of the time, should actually be called Really Damn Good, because that’s what the X3 is like to drive when you just leave it there. It’s painfully sluggish and irritating, but hey, it’s there if you’re into that sort of thing. Go the other direction on the mode selector and you can play Toyota Prius: Eco Pro lets you monitor your inputs and remaps the fuel and shift points. Put it in sport mode and it rockets around like an M car (without the punishing suspension and track-tuned DCT) the growl of the straight-six is muffled somewhat by the turbo plumbing, but the smoothness isn't - it’s all silky torque and brilliant shift programming from the eight-speed gearbox. Back at the office, I relayed my thoughts to a couple of trusted colleagues who leaned in and, in hushed tones, confided that they felt the X3 was better than the 3-series sedan. I first had my eyes opened to the X3’s charms during a road trip through the north Georgia mountains in an xDrive28i model two summers ago that ute took everything I could throw at it, and I caught myself laughing out loud at how stupid fun the thing was. For the casual enthusiast, the straight-six X3 delivers all the goodness of a 3-series sedan in a package that feels more spacious, is easier to climb into and out of and boasts a hatch for convenient loading ("Americans don’t buy hatchbacks" my foot - they buy them by the boatload in the form of crossovers). Driving dynamics, interior ergonomics, performance and build quality are all outstanding. The M-specific content on the 10.7-inch control display and the 10.25-inch information display that together make up the completely digital BMW Curved Display helps the driver concentrate.DIGITAL EDITOR ANDREW STOY: The sticker price still makes my cheeks pucker, but it’s hard to argue against the 2015 BMW X3 xDrive35i as one of the best BMWs available today if it weren’t for the Audi SQ5 (a more expensive, specialized machine, incidentally) I’d call it my favorite small/mid SUV on the market - the Lexus NX that recently impressed me is a size smaller. Inside, the BMW X1 M35i xDrive already has an arrestingly athletic ambiance in its standard configuration, and it can be further distinguished with pricey extras like M Sport seats. The new range-topping vehicle's elite athletic nature is reflected in M-specific design characteristics with an intensity unsurpassed in any other BMW M performance model. The brakes, which are located behind the 19-inch-diameter M light-alloy wheels with double spokes, complete the new BMW X1 M35i xDrive's custom chassis specification.Įxterior-wise, the BMW X1 M35i xDrive sets it apart from its stablemates in the compact SAV lineup, in addition to its higher performance features. These provide incredibly smooth braking, excellent feel, and consistent stopping power even with heavy loads. The 2024 BMW X1 M35i xDrive is the company's first performance model to offer M Compound brakes as an option. The M-specific exhaust system provides an emotionally rich symphony to the new four-cylinder engine's aggressive power delivery. The engine's highest output is produced between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, and its maximum torque of 400 Nm is available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. The new BMW X1 M35i xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with an electronically capped peak speed of 250 km/h. The four-cylinder engine of the X1 M35i employs M TwinPower Turbo technology to produce a maximum of 300 horsepower in Europe and an even higher figure of 317 horsepower in the United States and other targeted markets. What are the performance figures of the BMW X1 M135i? ![]()
